On February 5th, Yiwu, Zhejiang, known as the "world supermarket", is holding the 2024 Two Sessions. The local government work report discusses multiple reform plans, injecting a boost into this city of foreign trade.
According to the work report of the Yiwu Municipal Government, in 2023, Yiwu achieved a regional GDP of 205.562 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8%, and for the first time reached a new level of 200 billion yuan, ranking among the top ten counties and cities in Zhejiang Province in terms of GDP. The general public budget revenue was 14.43 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.6%. The total import and export volume was 566.05 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.2%, of which the export volume was 500.57 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16%, exceeding the total of 21 provinces in China; Imports amounted to 65.48 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 38.7%.
According to the expected goals, the gross domestic product of Yiwu region will increase by about 7.5% in 2024, the general public budget revenue will increase by about 8%, the export growth will be higher than the average level of Zhejiang Province, the import growth will be about 20%, the total retail sales of consumer goods will increase by about 6%, and the total industrial output value above designated size will increase by about 10%; Fixed assets investment increased by about 12%.
As the world's largest small commodity distribution center, the market is a top priority for the people of Yiwu. In 2024, the Yiwu government proposed to "build a city of markets", systematically planning the sixth generation market, accelerating the construction progress of the global data and trade center market and business office blocks, and investing in supporting projects such as cross-border e-commerce industrial parks; Deepen the promotion of market brand going global action; Iterative Chinabooks platform, adding online transaction volume of over 80 billion yuan; Accelerate the construction of a consumption center city in central Zhejiang.
Yiwu, a major foreign trade hub, is also a pilot city for comprehensive international trade reform approved by the State Council. The 2024 Yiwu Government Work Report proposes to "build a city of reform", fully strive for a new round of comprehensive international trade reform pilot, and advance 10 key reforms such as market procurement and import mechanism innovation; Accelerate the listing of state-owned enterprises and cultivate more than 8 reserve enterprises for listing; Plan to promote a new round of financial reform, and pilot the digital renminbi to achieve full coverage of professional markets.
The small commodity city under the local state-owned assets is the main operator of the Yiwu market. The company has multiple professional markets, including Yiwu International Trade City, Binwang Market, Huangyuan Market, and Yixi Production Resources Market. Among them, Yiwu International Trade City gathers 26 major categories and over 2.1 million types of goods, radiating to 233 countries and regions. On average, nearly 30 million express deliveries are sent out every day, which is closely related to the development of 2.1 million small and medium-sized enterprises and the employment of 32 million industrial workers nationwide.
The global data and trade center mentioned in the Yiwu government work report above is implemented by the Small Commodity City. In April 2023, Small Commodity City announced that the company plans to launch the construction of a new generation market global data and trade center that leads the global trade trend, accelerate the iteration and leap towards the sixth generation market, and strive to build a trade development pattern that integrates online and offline, links imports and exports, connects domestic and foreign markets, and promotes both domestic and foreign trade. The Yiwu Global Data Trade Center covers an area of 562 acres, with a total construction area of approximately 1.32 million square meters and a total investment of approximately 8.3 billion yuan.
The Yiwu government work report also shows that in 2023, the number of operating entities in the Yiwu market exceeded one million, with a total of 1.0546 million households, an increase of 17.4%. E-commerce entities have exceeded 600000 households, accounting for one-third of the total in Zhejiang province. The "Yixin Europe" China Europe freight train operated 1580 trains throughout the year, firmly ranking first in the country. The express delivery business volume reached 10.58 billion pieces, an increase of 13.8%, accounting for 1/12 of the national total.
